As the world of fishing continues to evolve, advancements in technology have made it easier than ever to locate and catch fish. One of the most exciting new tools on the market is the Garmin Livescope, a revolutionary device that allows anglers to see fish in real-time, even in murky water or low-light conditions.
To get some insight into how this technology is being used by professional anglers, we sat down with Fredrik Bäck, a veteran angler with over 20 years of experience in the sportfishing industry.
Question: Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, Fredrik. How have you been using the Garmin Livescope in your fishing
Fredrik: It’s been a game-changer for me, no doubt about it. I’ve been using it to locate fish that I might not have found otherwise, and it’s allowed me to get much more precise in my targeting.
Question: Can you walk us through how you use the Livescope on a typical fishing trip?
Fredrik: Sure. When I’m out on the water, I’ll start by turning on the Livescope and scanning the area around my boat. The device uses sonar to create a detailed image of the water column, so I can see where the fish are and how deep they’re swimming. Once I’ve located the fish, I’ll use the Livescope to track their movements in real-time. This is where the device really shines, as I can watch the fish react to my bait and adjust my approach accordingly.
Question: What kind of adjustments do you make based on what you see on the Livescope?
Fredrik: It depends on the situation, but one of the most common things I’ll do is change the speed of my retrieve. If I see the fish are following my lure but not biting, I might speed up or slow down to try to trigger a strike.
Another thing I’ll do is switch up my bait. If I’m using a certain type of lure and I’m not getting any bites, I might switch to something that’s closer to the baitfish I see on the Livescope.
Question: Have you noticed a difference in your catch rate since you started using the Livescope?
Fredrik: Definitely. I’m able to find more fish and catch them more consistently, which has led to some of my best days on the water. I’ve also been able to dial in my technique more precisely, which is always a plus.
Question: Do you have any tips for anglers who are new to using the Livescope?
A: My biggest tip would be to practice using it
Fredrik: My biggest tip would be to practice using it in different conditions. The Livescope works great in smaller water, but it’s also really useful in bigger tricky water with lesser density of fish, but usally bigger in size.
